Publishing:
Now that you have your site designed and your hosting choices made
it is time to upload your documents to your host's server so
the rest of the world can view it. Some hosting companies offer
a File Manager program as a part of their service but the general
method is to obtain and use your own FTP client (File Transfer Protocol
program). There are several inexpensive ones available: There are
several good inexpensive products available for both Windows and
Mac. Visit The
Website Webstore for a listing. Most are available immediately
by downloading and come with trial periods and great support. Many
of the more sophisticated, and expensive, Web site designing program
such as Macromedia Dreamweaver® have an FTP program incorporated.
These programs and more are discussed in more detail on WebPresence101.net.

Maintaining, Optimizing and Submitting:
Designing your Web site is only half of the equation of
an effective Web presence (unless it is a very private site).
Even personal sites need to be maintained and updated; links checked
and repaired, text and images changed or replace.
If you want to be listed with the search engines effectively
then the choice and placement of keywords need to be experimented
with, and submissions to the various search engines and directories
must be made on a regular basis. Exchanging links with other relevant
sites is another way to increase your visibility. An effective
site is a work in process at all times.
If you want to be found, if you want your visitors to return,
you must maintain it, enhance it and promote regularly.
Decide how much you want to be involved, the amount of
work you want to contribute to your site and the growth of its visibility
on the Web. You can do it yourself, learning as you go or you can
hire a Webmaster or Web designer (who also understands Web optimization
and site promotion).
If you decide to learn as you go there are many free newsletters
out there that will instruct you on the ins and outs of every e-marketing
technique. If you are an artist visit the site GettingArtistsOnline.com
an in-depth resource focused on helping visual artists learn the
ins and outs of creating, presenting, maintaining & strengthening
the Web presence of their art site. Also visit WebPresence101.net
