Born and raised in Montreal, and having spent some time in California and Vermont, Barr currently divides her time between the Eastern Townships in Quebec and St. John in the Virgin Islands where she is an owner of Syzygy Gallery located in Coral Bay.

Despite several years formally studying the studio arts Barr considers herself to be a self taught artist who has been hooked on visual self expression since her first box of Crayolas® as a child. Not always without self judgment, Barr has finally come into her own, freely and joyfully expressing her spiritual beliefs through her art forms.

Color is her strength. Influenced by such artists as Matisse and Gaugain, her color can at times evoke a Fauvist essence. She doesn't follow many of the traditional rules and says that by calling herself a mixed media artist she is giving herself the license to create with whatever tools or media that suits her fancy. The word "eclectic" is appealing to her but in truth there is a very definitive style of expression and content that tends to keep her varied sequential creative trends cohesive.

Barr has shown her work in many exhibitions in California, Vermont, Quebec and now in the Virgin Islands. She leads workshops for children and adults in mixed media techniques and in the spiritual aspect of creating. Her work reflects her love of the creative process. [Mixed Media Art Workshop]
